For several decades, the city of Kortrijk has profiled itself as a center for design and innovation. With its recognition as a UNESCO Creative Cities, the Kortrijk region joins a worldwide network of no less than thirty fellow design cities, from Beijing to Berlin and from Buenos Aires to Istanbul. The city itself underwent a true metamorphosis in recent years. It emerged as the hip student city buzzing with creativity. As a top region in the creative manufacturing industry, Designregio Kortrijk lauds its most progressive designers and companies with an Award. ELIET's Mega Prof green waste shredder also won an award this year. This is not the company's first.
The fifty best innovative products are immortalized in the book DESIGNX50. For this edition of DESIGNX50, an ELIET product was once again picked up. The design of the Mega Prof was able to charm the entire jury and was subsequently awarded an Award. Although one would not immediately expect a green waste shredder to be on the shortlist of a design competition, the Mega Prof is a maverick. When designing this Mega Prof, ELIET linked functionality, ease of use and ecology to aesthetic beauty. As soon as the machine appears in your sight, the orange-black combination immediately catches your attention. From the first impression, you are overwhelmed. The gaping hopper mouth with its gigantic feed roller give the chipper the appearance of a wolverine. The inclined line of the hopper continues seamlessly into the sleek design of the large side hoods. When these large side covers open up like wings, the entire transmission emerges at a glance. Hidden in the belly of the machine is the 33-hp turbodiesel engine. This power source is enclosed between the fuel and oil tanks that also serve as a sound buffer. Once again, the design of the tanks perfectly matches the side hoods. The cooling air flows through nicely integrated grilles right through the machine.
Design and innovation go hand in hand with the Mega Prof. In addition to a host of performance-enhancing gadgets, the machine features an intelligent ECO EYETM system. This feels likeWhen the machine is no longer actively shredding, the engine automatically switches to idle. An infrared eye monitors the feed, and as soon as someone presents themselves with trimmings again, the machine will automatically chase the engine back to full throttle. This auto-idle technology not only saves fuel, but also lowers noise levels on the surrounding area. Although this oversized chipper has a capacity of up to 15 cm, it weighs only 750 kg. This result of thoughtful design and intelligent material selection obviously offers the advantage that the machine can be transported with a simple B driving license. This is an invaluable asset for garden contractors, who thus have one less selection criterion in the search for capable employees in a tight labor market.
Design means attention to detail. One functional detail that comes as standard with the Mega Prof is the working light. In winter, when darkness falls early, it extends the chipping time by a few hours. In addition to beauty, functional usability and efficiency during work remain the essence. It is clear that the designers at ELIET have done their homework well and it is therefore no coincidence that this Mega Prof is one of the 50 best design products in Flanders.
