To be able to take on projects that are not necessarily large, but rather unusual, and then carry them out with an impeccable end result. It was not only the motivation that led landscape architect Jerome Orban to found his eponymous company in 2011, but also the vision that has guided his investment policy ever since. Fully in line with this view, the business manager decided a while back to invest in a Leica iCON iCR70 robot station, via measurement expert Lasertopo. The added value shines through in several areas... And garden projects.
Often, ambition to excel is the basis for starting a business. That was no different for landscaper Jerome Orban from Basse-Bodeux, a borough of Trois-Pont, when he decided to become self-employed twelve years ago. Although he probably could not have predicted his steep ascent at the time. During that time, Jérôme and his ever-expanding team have achieved great success with private customers, professional clients and public authorities alike.
Canopies, carports, borders, fences, paving, terraces, swimming pools or water features... The range is diverse, but not the passion and creativity shown in each project: these are unambiguous, regardless of size, explains the proud business manager. "This motivation stems from the urge to respond to non-ordinary requests, starting from a blank canvas but invariably resulting in impeccable results. To this end, everyone on the team has their own specialty, including, for example, two landscape architects who are responsible for the artistic touch of each design." That this approach is paying off is evident from the awards the firm has already won, including two bronze medals at the Concours de l'Entrepreneur de jardins de Wallonie, in the "Small Garden" category in 2015 and "Garden larger than 1,000 m2" in 2020, respectively.
Every project requires a site to be measured in order to map it to the finest detail. Whereas these measurements used to have to be done manually using a measuring tape or laser, modern measuring devices allow for faster measurements, freeing up more time for the creative completion of a garden job. This was the immediate reason for Jerome Orban to invest in a robotic Leica iCON iCR70 total station in 2021 through measurement specialist Lasertopo.
"Since commissioning this robotic station, our landscape architects have been able to save a considerable amount of time, but perhaps more important than saving time is the increased accuracy," testifies the case manager. "The iCR70 contributes enormously to precision in site preparation, allowing for fewer uncertainties as a project progresses. Indeed, through its perfect visualization of reality, the device offers us the guarantee that a project is feasible and realistic. For example, we know perfectly in advance whether a certain slope is possible, or whether a retaining wall needs to be provided."
"The iCR70 also proves its added value during the construction study, because once the design plan is uploaded to the total station, it can guide us perfectly to a particular point on the plan. This is the reason why we can now plant trees with millimeter precision, or create large, erratic plant zones faster and easier than ever."
Buying an advanced measuring device is one thing, knowing immediately how to use it efficiently is another. Even if the device excels in ease of use - only one operator and four keys are required - Lasertopo makes every effort to ensure a rapid return on every investment, through personalized support from the very beginning.
"To familiarize our landscape architects with the functionalities of the iCR70, we could count on the support of two experts from Lasertopo who came on site," recalls Jerome Orban. "Through a follow-up meeting a week or so later, small mistakes or bad habits in use were pointed out to us. And that's how it should be. Both the device itself and the unique service provided by Lasertopo are absolutely faultless. Thanks to the measurement expert's own service center, any questions can be resolved at lightning speed, and we are even contacted proactively when, for example, a calibration is due."
