Three tools for a sustainable patio

Three tools for a sustainable patio

Sustainability is multifaceted. It involves both ecology and longevity, local production, and reusable and recyclable products. For the West Flemish company Solidor, market leader in the production of terrace supports, all of these things go hand in hand. So too in the development of three new accessories, aimed at the construction of the most stable floating terraces.

Those who opt for a floating terrace are essentially already choosing a sustainable solution. After all, unlike the traditional construction, a floating construction allows you to dismantle the whole thing and reuse both tiles and terrace supports elsewhere. Moreover, if a single tile is accidentally damaged, it can easily be replaced without impacting the rest of the terrace.

However, all this only makes sense if the terrace is also straight, stable and firm. In addition to the constant optimization of its proven and continuously adjustable terrace supports - a 100% Belgian product, by the way - Solidor also develops various tools and accessories for this purpose. They make it even easier to build a high-quality, stable and level terrace. For all finishes, and whatever the surface.

The Sticksol top plate ensures an extremely solid connection between tile and support.

Automatic slope corrector

No surface is completely straight. Besides the anticipated slope for smooth water drainage, concrete floor slabs also struggle with minor unevenness with regularity. As a complement or alternative to the already existing HS2 slope corrector, with a fixed inclination of 2%, Solidor therefore launched the new HA5: an automatic slope corrector for inclinations of
0 to 5%.

The HA5 consists of two parts. The lower part takes the form of a tub and can be clicked directly onto any patio support from the Solidor Comfort series. The upper part, with a spherical underside, is inserted into the tub and will assume the correct slope.

Structusol's aluminum supports, barely 16 millimeters thick, allow the build-up height of wood terraces to be significantly reduced.

Adhesive top plate

To counteract the sometimes unstable feeling of a floating terrace and flapping tiles, Solidor has also added the adhesive top plate Sticksol to its range since this year. This application is suitable for all of the brand's patio carriers. Unlike the adhesives that are sometimes used on site to fix tiles to a terrace support, which often do not adhere sufficiently to the plastic terrace support, here the bitumen adhesive top plate is mechanically fixed to the top plate of the terrace support and thus ensures an extremely solid connection between tile and support. The product was even tested in a wind tunnel for this purpose, with rock-solid results even at wind speeds of ten Beaufort.

Sticksol can be applied over the entire surface of the terrace, but is particularly recommended at the level of the tiles that have a lot of gradient. Fixing the outside of the terrace with the adhesive top plate also greatly improves the strength and stability of the whole.

Structusol also simplifies the installation of large tiles in bracketed laying patterns.

Modular carrying system

The modular aluminum support system Structusol was also launched last year, as a solution for increased ease of installation for large tiles, special laying patterns and imitation parquet tiles of exceptional dimensions. In the meantime, however, the system has already proven its added value for just about all finishes, including wood.

The aluminum supports, made of the least CO2 emitting aluminum in Europe, ensure a guaranteed straight installation over the entire width or length of the deck, while with their thickness of 16 millimeters they only have a minimal impact on the construction height. If the system is combined with a wood finish, the 16 millimeters even represents a huge gain over traditional 40-millimeter rafters. Integrated thermoplastic rubbers ensure better grip and reduce impact noise. All assets for a perfectly straight, stable and pleasant result, which can be disassembled, reassembled or recycled if necessary.
