Get up close and personal with the latest innovations

How do you introduce garden contractors and green professionals to new products and innovations when the traditional trade show days are abolished? That question entrepreneur Marco van der Salm took to heart in recent months. Instead of settling for the now familiar - and, let's face it, maligned - formula of digital trade shows, he went looking for a solution where experience and personal contact are paramount.

"The green contractor wants to be able to take machines and tools in hand," leaves van der Salm, owner of www.grindsplit-discounter.be noted. "He wants to feel the weight and experience the performance up close. He wants to know how a particular material feels and how it handles. You can't do that on a digital platform. That's why we are organizing Open Door Days this fall."

Personal contact

The concept of the Open Deur Dagen, as the name suggests, is simple. On Oct. 8 and 9, manufacturers and distributors of garden equipment and machinery in Belgium and the Netherlands open their doors to gardeners, road builders and landscapers.

"For the interpretation, the companies are completely free. They can showcase their innovations, organize demonstrations or tours, or set up a small reception. If necessary, several companies can set up an initiative together. As long as personal contact with the customer comes first. This way, they get a targeted audience on the floor; not just curious people. In contrast to expensive and time-consuming trade fairs, this is an efficient and inexpensive way to put your company in the spotlight."

The Open Door Days organization is in charge of the framing. "On our website we provide information about all participating companies. We ensure that registrations run smoothly and prepare a handy map for visitors. Companies can also use the website to announce their offers or novelties."

Practical

Manufacturers and suppliers who would like to participate in the Open Door Days can register for free until August 1 through www.opendeurdagen.com. Visitor registrations will open on Sept. 1. "We assume that the main restrictions will be lifted by October. If not, we will work with fixed time slots and a limited number of visitors. Anything to keep the event safe."
