Good for the eye, the environment and the wallet. Why invisible swimming pool covers are worth a look

Good for the eye, the environment and the wallet. Why invisible swimming pool covers are worth looking at

Following in their wake is HeatCover®, a liquid cover that prevents water evaporation and heat loss. It also preserves the natural appearance of the pond.

Plastic covers are hardly ever used in swimming ponds. "Seventy percent of swimming ponds do not use plastic covers to prevent evaporation and energy loss," specifies Nils Rouwendal, commercial director of HeatCover®, a Belgian company that produces and sells liquid covers under the same name.

HeatCover® is added to the water at the appropriate dose daily with a dosing pump, about 1 to 1.4 milliliters per m2 every 24 hours. The agent, which has a lower resistance than water and thus floats upward, spreads over the entire surface, preventing evaporation of the water and thus water and energy losses. "HeatCover® has a higher boiling point than water," Rouwendal explains why the invisible membrane prevents water evaporation. Less heat is also lost as a result.

Liquid cover reduces water evaporation and energy loss.

Halving

Especially in the spring, when the heat pump comes on to heat the water and the outside temperature is low, evaporation of the water occurs, as it does in the summer when the sun is bright and temperatures are high. With increased ownership of private swimming facilities and global warming, owners see the need to make pools and swim ponds even more
sustainable.

Research shows that both water loss and energy consumption can be reduced up to fifty percent with HeatCover®. For example, a test was done with a 440-square-meter indoor swimming pool with a temperature of 28 degrees. Without the use of HeatCover®, 138 cubic meters of water evaporated, after its use that loss was only 70 cubic meters. Gas consumption dropped from 670 cubic meters to 361 cubic meters. Practical measurements in outdoor pools showed that heat loss can be significantly slowed down in chilly periods.

Recommended by Distri Pond

HeatCover® is also used in public and private swimming pools, instead of or in combination with tarpaulins, as it also provides evaporation control during the day (07:00 - 23:00) when the tarpaulin is removed. In the case of swimming ponds, which are booming, the use of HeatCover® has become indispensable. It is therefore not for nothing that the durable agent is widely recommended by experts at specialist wholesaler Distri Pond in every swimming pond concept.

Due to the (physical) characteristics of a swimming pond, a liquid cover is often the only logical solution. For example, the swimming pond is equipped with a plant zone for the natural filtration of the water and also takes on irregular, natural shapes, which makes covering with a tarp impossible.

Preserving natural views

While Distri Pond strongly recommends HeatCover®, there are landscaping professionals who even include it as standard in their solutions. For example, more and more landscapers are using only HeatCover®. "They assume that a swimming pond is designed in close harmony with the house and garden. The swimming pond fits into that overall picture, so it should therefore be visible at all times," explains Rouwendal.

While HeatCover® has been active in the swimming market for years, the company has included swimming ponds as a separate segment in its marketing as of 2020. With this, it aims to capitalize on the increasing popularity of swimming ponds, supporting garden professionals in the rollout. Thus, it developed a swimming pond variant, for the new product labeling, product display and leaflets that make it easier to explain the operation and benefits of HeatCover® to the customer
can be.

Recurring revenue

HeatCover® has built a dealer network of 32 companies since last year. Rouwendal points out that the liquid not only gives garden landscapers one-time benefits by providing the customer with a ready-made solution, but also creates recurring sales, as users need a new canister every so often.

Safe for swimmers

The biodegradable properties of HeatCover® make the product a sustainable solution. Safety for swimmers has been widely researched. Before its market introduction, the liquid cover was tested for risks and approved by Becoh (Belgian Center for Occupational Hygiene). Tests by the Knowledge Center for Environment and Health of the Province of Antwerp have also shown that the product has no significant impact on water quality and VLAREM standards.
