Tree bark remains popular

At Van Israel, customers have a choice of many types of natural ground cover. Tree bark is and remains a classic, lasting - depending on the variety - up to six years. Sylvester tree bark comes from our Belgian forests. Its brown color fits nicely between shrub and flower beds, fruit trees or perennials. A variation of this is red pine bark, a mixture of French maritime pine bark and Sylvester. This mix combines weed control with a unique decorative aspect. The demand for maritime pine bark is also constantly increasing, as this variety is very popular in ornamental gardens and as a ground cover for plants and shrubs.

From shreds to chips

Are you looking for a trendy ground cover? Then colored wood chips are the solution you are looking for. These epicea wood chips - available in red, orange, yellow and brown - are 100% ecological and biodegradable. New to Van Israel's Saniflor range are torrefied wood chips. These hardwood chips were heated at a high temperature, making them impermeable, extremely resistant to mold and very long-lasting. These chips can also serve as fall cushioning under playground equipment.

From cocoa to coconut

With cocoa shells as ground cover, you shift up another gear when it comes to sustainability. This decorative solution not only protects the soil in the garden from bad weather and water evaporation, but also repels weeds and - good to know - slugs. And because they digest slowly, they also provide important nutritional elements for plants. 

Another ecological topper is Coco Dekor, or small, light brown caps derived from the coconut shell. This ground cover also decomposes slowly and does not acidify. Weeds between plants and shrubs don't stand a chance with this sustainable product.

New: flax pellets

A notable newcomer to the Saniflor range are flax pellets. Thanks to heating to 70°C and sterilization, this natural mulch no longer contains seeds, but all the more qualities to keep the garden weed-free, frost-free and moist. This ground cover is a real all-rounder: you can use it in both ornamental garden, vegetable garden and planters.
