Modular design offers flexibility in all circumstances

Slopes, terraces and other height differences bring dynamism to a garden project. To ensure the stability of the different levels, retaining walls are indispensable in such situations. CBS Concrete has traditionally offered various solutions for this, with the necessary flexibility in terms of dimensions and ease of installation, but with the ReCon Walls, it is now also introducing a modular alternative with various natural stone looks. The ideal solution for projects that require the retaining wall to integrate perfectly into its surroundings.

The ReCon Walls system has already proven itself many times internationally in both garden and large infrastructure projects: a broad spectrum of application possibilities that the system owes mainly to its modular construction, based on prefabricated blocks made of wet cast concrete, which are built up layer by layer. With basic dimensions of 40 by 120 centimeters on the visible side and depths ranging from 60 to a maximum of 304 centimeters, they allow for numerous large, small, high and low configurations for retaining walls.

Strong and reliable

Depending on the needs of the project, ReCon Walls retaining wall blocks can be combined in two ways. For retaining walls up to 6 meters high, a gravity construction with deep blocks at the bottom and less deep ones in the upper layers is usually sufficient, as if it were a more classic L-wall. If the soil is poor or the retaining wall must span more than 6 meters, a geogrid reinforced construction is recommended. Here a geogrid made of plastic is inserted between each layer to create a reinforced soil structure. The maximum height in this case is 20 to even 25 meters.

If necessary, the concrete quality can also be adapted to the specific conditions. In addition to the standard version in C30/37 EE3, resistant to frost and contact with rain, the retaining wall blocks are optionally available in C35/45 EE4. This version is additionally resistant to contact with salt and is therefore appropriate at the coast or for (infrastructure) projects where regular contact with road salt can be expected. Versatile design

The modular construction of the system not only gives a lot of freedom in terms of height and length, but also for the design of the retaining wall. Thus, the retaining wall blocks with their wedge shape can be placed perfectly in concave and convex curves, and there are numerous special blocks, such as corner, top and fitting blocks, to complete the whole.

Perhaps the main attraction for the private builder, in turn, is the special finish of the visible side. Indeed, instead of a smooth concrete surface, which admittedly would not look out of place in a sleek and modern garden project, CBS Concrete offers a choice of five natural stone looks with the ReCon Walls. Rustic and Weathered Edge create the illusion of smaller stones in a random pattern, while The Northshore Granite and LeSueur County Limestone imitate the look of large blocks of granite and limestone, respectively. Finally, Old World, thanks to its smooth finish and beveled edges, has a rather industrial character.

Basically, all the textures have the same light gray concrete tone, but staining the retaining wall with a custom product allows it to fit even better into the garden project.

Installation convenience

Traditionally, installing a retaining wall is not always a laughing matter. Especially in small and compact gardens, it may happen that large cranes cannot be brought on site or that there is insufficient space to maneuver elements to the right place. In that respect, too, the modular construction of ReCon Walls proves its worth. This is because the weight of the individual blocks remains comparatively limited, so that the job can also be done with lighter and thus smaller cranes. Although the number of elements has to be increased, the tongue-and-groove system of the retaining wall blocks makes this also easy, resulting in a stable construction.
