The geotextile is one hundred percent biodegradable and fully compostable.
Because of the ban on chemical weed killers, municipalities, garden contractors, individuals, etc. are looking for solutions for alternative weed control. To offer an ecologically sound alternative, MatGeco, the geotechnical division of the insulco group, launched the weed cloth BioWeedtex more than a decade ago.
The BioWeedtex is a sustainable product. It is a geotextile made from vegetable oil, which is one hundred percent biodegradable and fully compostable. For this purpose, the cloth even carries an OK Compost certificate. After a minimum of four to five years, the BioWeedtex will begin to degrade naturally.
Compared to conventional plastic geotextiles, the BioWeedtex also produces up to eighty percent less fossil energy and results in ninety percent less CO2 emissions.
A further advantage of the BioWeedtex compared to woven plastic geotextiles in particular is that BioWeedtex effectively stimulates the growth of plantings. In contrast to woven plastic geotextiles, which allow little moisture to pass through and also allow the soil to breathe only to a limited extent, the BioWeedtex is in fact a highly permeable geotextile. As a result, moisture can penetrate the soil more easily and is also retained beneath the fabric.
With its brown, dark color, the fabric is also able to attract and retain heat. This combination creates a kind of tropical effect, which again stimulates the faster growth of plants.
Green space management, from construction to maintenance, generally involves many labor-intensive and time-consuming activities. However, BioWeedtex significantly reduces the time and cost required for subsequent maintenance.
On sloping terrain, the BioWeedtex also prevents erosion. Thanks to the durable nature of the geotextile, once properly installed, the surface is low maintenance.
By adding plant hemp fibers, the biodegradable BioWeedtex has an extremely natural aspect. This means that the brown geotextile can blend beautifully and aesthetically into the landscape. An ideal, discreet and ecological alternative to avoid the use of herbicides and pesticides, therefore.
