With the Europeanization of legislation, the company is seeing increased demand for parts. In the garden and park sector, sales of wheels and tires are running as usual.
“European legislation is becoming increasingly dominant and is pushing national legislation into the background. As a result, you see that Belgian manufacturers of agricultural vehicles, including vehicles for garden and park work, are increasingly complying with these European regulations.”
Speaking is Sake Middelbos, manager of the importer of the same name of parts for vehicle construction. The company is active in numerous sectors, including fast traffic (heavy and light vehicle construction), and slow traffic (agricultural and industrial). Its customers also include constructors of vehicles used in the garden and park sector, such as builders of trailers and golf course machinery.
“Our parts focus on movement: on brakes (braked axles, overrun brakes, calculation of braking schemes), rollers (tires, axles), connecting (balls, spherical couplings, drawbar couplings, drawbar triangles) and impact (approved bumpers),” says Middelbos, who adds that the demand for axles is currently booming. The company's components comply with European regulations and are therefore permitted in every European member state.

According to the business manager, manufacturers have long stuck to national regulations, but are therefore now switching to European regulations. “This has the advantage that your tractor units can also be sold in other European countries.” As a result of this trend, Middelbos' components and knowledge of European regulations are increasingly being called upon.
The Europeanization of rules provides manufacturers and distributors with new growth opportunities, he continues. “Due to digitalization, customers are also looking further and further afield and are no longer limited to vehicle manufacturers in their neighborhood. For example, someone from Germany can contact a constructor or distributor in Belgium.”

Middelbos has been operating internationally since its inception. Parts come from all over the world and the customer base is situated in the Benelux. The family business was founded fifty years ago by Sake's father and his brother Dick. Meanwhile, Dick's children are also in the company and succession is already guaranteed. The company has two spacious warehouses with large stocks so that deliveries can be made quickly.
Because of the company's long history, it has also built up a solid knowledge in the park and garden machinery sector. “Our experience allows us to think along with the customer. If there are questions regarding the load-bearing capacity or width, or if they are investigating how to prevent rutting: our experts can often assist in this,” says the business manager. Not only machine manufacturers know how to find their way to Middelbos, the Dutch company is especially known for its range of wheels and tires. It has a large stock of countless sizes and different tread types, including tractor tread, slick and lawn tread. Among the tires are well-known brands such as Trelleborg, Bridgestone, Carlisle, OTR Wheel, Galaxy, Duro, Emrald and Maxxis/CST.

Information about the tires - type, height, ply rating, load capacity, speed index and more - can be found on Middelbos“ Web shop. This also lists the prices of the tires. In addition to a wide range of tires, Middelbos also customizes wheels and rims for the customer. ”We provide a lot of customization of wheels and rims for agricultural and garden and park equipment, for example for carts and agricultural machinery," says Middelbos, who has a spray booth at work in the Netherlands, allowing rims to be sprayed in color.
