More environmentally friendly mechanical solutions such as weed brushes are now part of the standard equipment of numerous green services and garden contractors. However, not everyone yet knows how to use these machines optimally. According to Donat van der Horst, distributor of the German brand Tielbürger, there is still a lot to gain, especially in combination with the equally ubiquitous sweeper.
Weed brushes provide direct and environmentally friendly control of weeds. Using steel brushes, they cut off the plant from the root. The unwanted greenery disappears from the streets immediately, without the need for chemicals.
For long-term weed-free results, however, regularity is required. Weeds are notoriously persistent and even after treatment with a weed brush, they will inevitably grow again. Regular maintenance - depending on the type of weeds, up to once a week - is therefore essential. A thoughtful choice of machinery ensures that those works go as smoothly as possible.
Anyone investing in a weed brush should choose one that can get the job done quickly and easily, without unnecessary handling or excessive maintenance. Tielbürger machines are already known for their Deutsche Gründlichkeit.
A height-adjustable handlebar spares the back; the protective hood provides optimum protection for both machine and operator. On the TW50S and TW50X, the protective hood can also be folded to the side, which is especially useful when working along the wall. Moreover, because the track width of the machines is narrower than the working width, the brushes do not have to be rotated first for this purpose. For brushing straight stretches, the wheels can be set rigidly, and the three-stage wheel drive of the TW50X also simplifies work on slopes.
Steel brushes are cutting edge for weeds, and a weed brush is therefore the most effective device for mechanical weed control. Although it is therefore not the most appropriate solution at all times.
First, steel brushes are also hard on both themselves and the pavement, and wear on neither can be ruled out. While Tielbürger machines are equipped with a quick-change system for easy brush maintenance, and by utilizing a height-adjustable support wheel they even allow it to reduce excessive pressure on the brushes, where possible, prevention is still better than cure.
Second, the pruning approach of a weed brush is not always necessary. Indeed, once the weeds have been professionally removed, the main thing is to prevent new germs from settling. Provided the maintenance is done regularly, it can be done just as well with a sweeper.
After an initial work with the weed brush at the beginning of the season, the versatile Tielbürger sweepers - with the same focus on ergonomics and ease of operation - are therefore the ideal companions for mechanical weed control. The plastic brushes are softer on the surface and do not leave small steel particles behind, but do sweep off new germs quickly and easily. By using a catch basin, everything is also disposed of immediately. In this way, the work can be completed even faster and there is no longer any risk of new germs settling.
