Theory modules now also available via e-learning

A necessary evolution, but one that also has positive twists and turns. For example, the enormous rise of digital platforms offers unprecedented flexibility in the PCLT's training program.

In addition to the refresher courses for the phytolics license, which have already been organized online since May, the PCLT will also make a package of logistics training courses accessible via its e-learning platform starting in September. Initially, this will involve the forklift and aerial work platform renewals; later, excavator, wheel loader and telehandler courses, among others, will be added to the online offer. "The enormous digital peak of the past few months also has some undeniable strengths for us," knows Geert Chys, director of the PCLT. "We want to capitalize on those with this offer."

Flexible

That training is a worthwhile investment goes without saying. Yet Geert also recognizes the practical concerns of both self-employed workers and business leaders. "Not everyone can just free themselves at the time of a training course, nor is it interesting to have to miss all your employees at the same time. Moreover, sometimes very precious hours are lost in the car. A digital training, on the other hand, you can attend when it suits you and without having to go out on the road. This flexibility is very much appreciated and we want to gradually integrate it into more and more training programs."

For business leaders, Geert points out another advantage: "As an employer, you can track the progression of your staff. So you know perfectly well who has already completed the training, and who still has some catching up to do."

Practical training, of course, remains indispensable.

Clear

The courses themselves consist of several modules, each covering a particular sub-aspect through a video and presentation. "At the end of each module, the participant is given a number of questions. If he answers them correctly, he can move on to the next module. In total, an online training course takes about two hours that way."

Practice remains indispensable

Via e-learning, almost the entire theoretical part of the regular training is handled. "However, for the theoretical exam and especially for the practical part, classical contact moments remain necessary," the director emphasizes. "Self-employed people can visit our various training locations for this on scheduled dates, and for companies we are happy to come on site. In this way, we guarantee quality training with as little organizational disruption as possible."
