This week, machine manufacturer SMO in Eeklo celebrated a milestone, albeit a proverbial one. The reason was the sale of its 500th FleXiever screening machine.
SMO is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and, in addition to the custom installations it builds for its customers, it is also strongly committed to its own products. One of these is a range of screening machines that it has successfully marketed under the FleXiever brand name over the past 10 years.
FleXiever screening machines are sold worldwide and are used in a wide variety of sectors: recycling, rental companies, horticulture, earthmoving, construction, industry, etc., including the screening of mealworms.
The screening machine with serial number 500 was sold through Lederer Siebtechnick. They have been the official FleXiever dealer in Germany since early 2021. “We are slowly but steadily expanding our dealer network in Europe,” says sales manager Michael De Craene. “We didn't rush into setting up a dealer network. We first wanted to do as many sales as possible ourselves in order to gain sufficient experience with the machine and get a feel for our potential clientele. We also had to be absolutely sure of our product before starting to export. 2021 was the first year in which we sold more machines abroad than domestically. As things stand at the moment, it won't be five years before we sell our thousandth screening machine,” Michael adds.
SMO founder and manager Sander Mollet is also delighted: “We are living in turbulent times, but SMO is holding its own. Our company continues to grow and new opportunities arise almost daily. The SMO name is also gaining recognition abroad, which has enabled us to take on assignments for clients in Russia and Australia, among other countries, in recent years. However, the majority of our clients are still located in Belgium and our neighboring countries.”
And the future looks bright for the Eeklo-based company: “In 2022, we will start construction of a new production hall (4000m³) and office building (1800m²). From then on, we will be ready to take on even larger projects.”
