Week of the Bee: Husqvarna shares tips for a bee-friendly garden

Bee Week: Husqvarna shares tips for a bee-friendly garden

We cannot do without the bees and yet their population is declining rapidly. Why is that? And what can we do to support them as best we can? Husqvarna gives some useful tips and tricks.

Less and less green

Our public roads and private gardens seem increasingly neat and better maintained. This evolution makes us more likely to choose a garden with a lot of paving that seems less maintenance. Consequence: a one-sided and poor diet for bees.

So forget those sleek, concrete patios but think lush gardens with cozy nooks and crannies full of wildflowers and plants that bees love so much. Difficult with a robotic mower that automatically cuts the lawn, you think? It doesn't have to be. Thanks to Husqvarna's steel fencing arches, you screen flower beds quickly and easily. You don't have to worry about the robotic mower mowing the flowers with it, and the steel arches are easy to install.

Insects of inestimable value

The fencing arches fit completely into Husqvarna's corporate philosophy. The Swedish brand pays great attention to supporting our biodiversity, and this translates into convenient, ready-to-use solutions (which, by the way, do not have to be expensive). For example, it wants to create a movement toward more greenery from one's own garden.

Why the focus on biodiversity and the bees? Well, they are both an indicator of our habitat. Actually, it takes a large supply of trees, plants, flowers, etc. to provide bees with a nutritious and varied diet.

But the reverse is true: pollination by insects is necessary for more than 75% of all agricultural crops. Honey bees, for example, not only make delicious honey, they, together with bumblebees and solitary bees, ensure that we can enjoy a colorful and varied shopping cart full of fruits and vegetables.

A full menu for the bee

Do you really want to enjoy the bees and offer them a full menu in the garden? Then be sure to check out Husqvarna's tips below.

  • Create a delicious four-course meal from your garden. Bees need a interplay of shrubs, plants, herbs and wildflowers. You can sow a flower mixture, but also consider "typical" kitchen herbs such as sage and rosemary. Bulbs, such as onion and leek plants also appeal to bees.
  • Forget it drink not. Insects also need water, in small cavities of stones or a pond in the garden.
  • In addition to food and drink, you can go for a full option hotel experience. For example, a bee-hotel The perfect place to unwind. Ideal if you do not have much space outside, but would still like to observe the bees.
  • Let your garden bloom for long enough! Choose mainly species that bloom for several months, as bees basically need them from spring to fall.
  • Choose a variety of spots and textures in your garden. Bees love untouched corners and edges. Therefore, choose to plant a section of your garden with wildflowers. Do you have a robotic mower? Then use Husqvarna's temporary fencing arches for the sections you want to keep untouched.
  • Not much room in the garden? Also terraces and balconies can be perfectly transformed into a veritable bee paradise. Think of flower pots with delicious kitchen herbs, but also climbing plants against an unused wall are ideal for bees.
  • And finally: omit chemical pesticides as much as possible. These are toxic to bees. Still want to control some insects in the garden? Then choose eco-friendly alternatives from the store or make them yourself.
