Zoontjens and Optigrün join hands

Zoontjens, the utility roof specialist, and Optigrün, a specialist in retention systems, have entered into a partnership to create walkable retention roofs together. With this collaboration, the companies aim to create multifunctional roofs that will make a valuable contribution to the future roofing landscape.

Walkable retention roof
A retention roof retains water and, if necessary, discharges it in a regulated manner. Now, water retention systems are often used in conjunction with green roofs or roof gardens. But a water retention layer can also be installed under roof terraces, tiled walkways or other tile paving on a roof. Given the limited space in urban areas, it is necessary to use the available space as creatively and efficiently as possible. Storing water on a walkable roof gives the roof a dual function, multifunctional.

Advantages
Henk Vlijm, director of Optigrün explains, "Water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource, which makes it imperative to effectively use the rainwater that does fall. In addition, more and more zoning plans and environmental permits include the water paragraph as an obligation: every square meter of new paved surface (building or paving) must be (partly) compensated." Zoontjens director Paul Heerkens adds: "A roof terrace, sports roof or rooftop bar. Add under the Zoontjens system the special retention layer and you kill two birds with one stone, with two functions in one place. In this way, paving on the roof on a new building lot offers additional advantages: you have more space to set up as a recreation area AND you can store more water."

Cooperation contract
The two directors of the two companies recently signed their cooperation contract. In the year 2023, they plan to carry out the first projects together.
