Since last year, Makita no longer produces machines with gasoline engines. The Japanese manufacturer resolutely draws the card of battery technology, confirming its pioneering role in this transition. What are the advantages of battery-powered machines? Why is the trend toward electric unstoppable? And how does Makita's new XGT 40Vmax battery platform make a difference here?

That Makita goes full steam ahead with battery technology is no surprise. More and more customers - both individuals and professionals - are becoming convinced of the many advantages that battery-powered machines can offer them. New technological developments only accelerate the shift to electric applications.

A wide range of benefits

Battery powered machines combine the mobility of a combustion engine machine with the ease of use and reliability of an electric motor. Not only do battery machines make less noise and produce no exhaust fumes, they also have no starting problems and require significantly less maintenance. 

In addition, growing environmental awareness among companies and customers is leading to an increased focus on health and safety. Legislation and standards in this area are also becoming increasingly stringent.

Substantial cost savings

But battery-powered machines have other strengths. Electronic control allows users to enjoy additional features, such as automatic speed control according to load, and automatic stopping in the event of overload or kickback. These features significantly increase user comfort and safety. 

Last but not least, you also benefit from a lower energy cost. Especially compared to alkylate gasoline - which is often used to reduce harmful emissions from two-stroke gasoline engines - you realize significant cost savings.

Unmatched power of 40Vmax

With the latest XGT 40Vmax battery platform, Makita takes the power and autonomy of cordless machines to a new level. This means that, for example, leaf blowers, chainsaws, brush cutters and lawnmowers from the professional segment can now also operate perfectly on battery power.

Combining optimized 40Vmax battery technology and advanced brushless motors, the new generation of machines delivers power up to 1.9 kW and almost double that for models using two 40Vmax batteries in series. By using large-capacity batteries, such as the 40Vmax 5.0 Ah (180 Wh) or 40Vmax 8.0 Ah (288 Wh), you achieve a very decent autonomy. Thanks to the extremely fast charging times, in many cases you can work continuously via alternating batteries.

New range of lawn mowers for XGT 40Vmax battery platform 

Makita recently introduced the LM001G and LM002G self-propelled lawn mowers, with cutting widths of 48 and 53 cm, respectively. They feature a specially developed 36V motor that delivers up to 1.9 kW of output power. The battery compartment fits two 40Vmax batteries. When one battery is empty, it automatically switches to the other.

The steel mower deck has been redesigned for even better grass collection and the lowest possible energy consumption. You can control the rotational speed of the mower blade by choosing low, high or automatic. A separate motor provides the drive, where you can control it steplessly from 1.5 to 5.0 km/h. This greatly increases user comfort and efficiency.

These lawnmowers come standard with a plug for mulching and a plug for rear discharge. At the request of professional users, these machines can also be equipped with a blade specifically for collecting grass, for mulching and even a "swing back" blade with pivoting blades for mowing areas where obstacles such as small tree stumps, stones or litter can make mowing difficult. And a not unimportant detail: the push handle can be adjusted and folded without tools, allowing you to store the machine vertically in no time.
