As is its annual custom, Husqvarna, world leader in robotic mowers, presents its latest innovations during extended press days under the title "Husqvarna Living City" at a location in Europe. Place of appointment this time was Malmö. A home match for the Swedish manufacturer, but that didn't stop them from going big with lots of cutting-edge technology for commercial lawn care.
To put Husqvarna Living City away as press days perhaps does the initiative a disservice. In recent years, it has grown into a platform for innovation and knowledge sharing in urban spaces. Experts and researchers speak and bring together the latest insights and technologies. Because technology is also playing an increasing role in the world of urban development and green space management.
A concrete example is Husqvarna's launch of a new generation of robotic mowers. Naturally designed in Sweden and manufactured in Europe. The four new models, under the line name "EPOS," all feature all-wheel drive (AWD). But the most important upgrade, that is the wireless operation of the robotic mowers. Forget boundary wire and remember EPOS: Exact Positioning Operating System. Beyond that, EPOS technology offers flexible installation options: wireless mowing zones are easy to program and the mowing process is easily adjusted to the specific needs of your terrain.
For those who cannot yet say goodbye to bounding wire, there is good news, as that remains an option as well.
Among the latest models, the Automower 535 AWD EPOS stands out. In just 48 hours, it mows up to 6,000 square meters. That makes the Automower 535 AWD EPOS ideally suited for maintaining vast areas. Think golf courses, but also sports fields and soccer fields. The robotic mower goes on sale from February 2025, and can already count on a nice extra in the second quarter of 2025: pattern mowing. That update is available via an online software update.
The other three EPOS robotic mowers (580L, 580 and 560) use an AI-ready platform, making it child's play to integrate new features as soon as they become available.
Think of the software update for pattern mowing mentioned above, but also AI applications with camera. Here we are looking forward to a camera with night vision and "exceptional agility" in avoiding obstacles. The camera application will be available in 2026 and the AI-ready platform will be launched in March 2025.
Husqvarna's latest robotic mowers are designed with the future in mind, that much is clear. The brand new AI-ready platform offers even further opportunities for innovation, such as solar panel chargers and night vision cameras. These features make turf maintenance even more efficient and environmentally friendly, and provide a high degree of control and convenience for users. Just think of remote start capability to leverage maximum uptime.
The focus on sustainability and technological advancement fits seamlessly with Husqvarna Living City's vision of bringing together innovation and technology with a sustainable outlook. "It was very nice to see during this edition of Husqvarna's Living City how, with humans always firmly at the helm, artificial intelligence will increasingly assist us to make the best choices for improving our green heritage," concludes Bart Van Hal, Husqvarna Benelux marketing manager.
