Within the compact segment, two new models were recently welcomed, in the form of the PC24MR-5 mini excavator and the WA70M-8 compact wheel loader. Both machines are distributed by BIA through an extensive network of some 20 Komatsu Utility Partners in Belgium.
The PC24MR-5 is the latest addition to Komatsu's esteemed MR-5 series of mini excavators. Machines that can also rely on much interest within the landscaping industry. This is not surprising, as these are all models that are powerful, versatile and, above all, reliable. The MR-5 generation of mini-excavators not only uses modern diesel engines that meet the strictest emission requirements in accordance with EU Stage V, but also boasts one hundred years of Komatsu technological know-how and global resources to develop machines that meet the highest requirements in the market.
The all-new MR-5 series builds on the highly successful MR-3 series and includes a total of eight models with operating weights ranging from 1,820 to 5,640 kilograms. The product line benefits from factory options designed and developed by Komatsu, such as proportional control joysticks and additional functions for the hydraulics to provide flexibility, ensuring quality, reliability and performance day in and day out. For optimum comfort, a spacious, ergonomically designed cab with a wide seat is provided. In this way, the Japanese manufacturer provides an equally comfortable and safe workplace for any operator, regardless of the job.
Simone Reddi, Product Manager for compact excavators at Komatsu Europe, says: "The MR-5 range concentrates the quality and performance of Komatsu's larger models in a compact machine. In addition, the unique design concept ensures that the Komatsu MR-5 excavators are sure to stand out on job sites across Europe. The PC24MR-5 and the PC26MR-5 are strategic additions to this segment, where good performance should not come at the expense of easy transportability." With an unladen weight of 2,430 kilograms, the new PC24MR-5 is easy to transport on a trailer or in a cargo box. The machine achieves a digging depth of 2,615 millimeters and reaches a maximum distance of 4,500 millimeters. The undercarriage is only 1,450 millimeters wide, and standard features include a deluxe cab and Komatsu's Komtrax system for remote monitoring of the machine.
Also in the compact wheel loader segment, BIA can present a recent innovation in the form of the WA70M-8, a 5-ton machine that is multipurpose on construction sites, in landscaping, earth moving or agriculture. The compact loader shares the same improvements in power, productivity, emissions, safety and comfort with the 6-ton WA80M-8 introduced last year. The 5-ton machine is equipped with a low-emission Stage V Komatsu engine with particulate filter. Engine power has increased by a whopping 25% to 46.2 kW (62.8 hp)!
In order to be effortlessly deployed for heavy duty operations, an automatic hydrostatic transmission was chosen to drive all four wheels. Thanks to the Easy Fork kinematics of the lifting frame, the operator can easily transport pallets parallel to the ground without having to readjust the forks. The machine also has parallel kinematics in Z, which provides high breakout force and easy bucket filling, and is exceptionally maneuverable.
Thanks to the large engine hood and tilting cab, all service points are easily accessible. The service interval of as many as 6,000 hours allows the particulate filter to last up to ten years. The new engine delivers high torque at low engine speeds for better performance and low consumption under all conditions. Komtrax telematics provides fleet management and support, protects the machine from misuse and ensures optimal efficiency and uptime, all for free.
The WA70M-8's low center of gravity improves stability, and its compact dimensions - along with the new engine cover - provide extremely good all-round visibility. The new multifunction high-definition LCD color display with 24 languages can be customized according to the user's needs. The optional air conditioning as well as the electronically controlled suspension system (ECSS) provide even more comfort and productivity.
Komatsu importer BIA will distribute these new machines primarily through its Utility Partners. This network of some 20 local dealers specializes in the sale, rental and maintenance of Komatsu's compact model range up to 12 tons.
