In practice, however, this is not possible or desired everywhere and the leaves must be cleared. Fortunately, with the right tools, they do end up in the right place.
Pavements in particular disrupt the natural balance. After all, what does it benefit for a fallen leaf to land on a piece of asphalt? It doesn't benefit nature, and it causes a lot of problems for people. Drains, gutters and sewers get clogged, wet leaves make foot and bike paths treacherously slippery, and so on. Here, leaf clearing is almost a must.
The most efficient way to clear leaves is to collect them on a narrow strip using a portable blower or push blower, then vacuum them up and blow them into the cargo bay of a truck. ELIET, manufacturer of a range of Truckloaders, confirms that green services routinely opt for a vacuum on a trailer, with the major advantage that it can be easily disconnected to empty the truck's bucket.
The manufacturer has two models for this purpose. The compact, professional TL 450 PRO is characterized by a simple design, with the impeller mounted directly on the motor shaft. In the TL 450 PRO HD, the "Heavy Duty" model and the most popular choice, the turbine is driven by a belt. This relieves the motor of the dynamic force on the impeller and increases operating reliability. In addition, the drive to the turbine can be decoupled so that the engine can also be started unloaded.
Furthermore, ELIET Truckloaders are known for their 20 cm diameter stainless steel discharge nozzle, ergonomic suction nozzle on wheels, robust construction and low noise characteristics.
Although unanimous about clearing on paved surfaces, disagreement flares up over leaves that fall in open spaces or gardens. In forests and parks or on fields and roadsides, at least, there is little point in clearing leaves. The garden, however, is a different story. If a little leaf litter on the grass is no problem and even useful, then accumulated leaves left on an ornamental lawn for long periods of time can smother the grass and lead to rot. Occasionally running a mulching mower across the lawn to scatter small leaf clippings can help, but large accumulations are best removed preventively.
This can be done with a leaf pusher, grapple and wheelbarrow, or by using a vacuum such as the ELIET Cameleon. This professional suction combination tailored to the private garden has a collection container of no less than 800 liters, perfect for the bulky nature of leaves. The suction hose of 20 cm and 2.5 m long also copes well with large volumes and makes even remote places accessible. The vacuumed leaves flow through the suction turbine, where they come into contact with the paddle wheel that partially shreds them. An optional shredding unit enhances that effect and allows maximum use of the loading area. Finally, a chassis with large wheels and suction nozzle on wheels ensure optimum ease of use.
Instead of disposing of leaves after clearing, it makes sense to shred them and process them on site. ELIET's 4-season shredders allow optimal recycling of leaf waste. Indeed, the leaf chips are so fine that they can be processed immediately as mulch in the borders. In winter, this mulch layer protects plants and flower bulbs from night frost, while by spring the leaf chips have composted into a nutritious layer. In other words, clearing leaves need not be a point of contention.
