"What's in a name? Shakespeare already had Juliet sighing it to Romeo in the late 16th century. Several centuries later, the question is still relevant. We are bombarded with glowing product names whose meaning or background is not always clear. Or even worse: just remember them! And lo and behold, here are two more: Floranid®Twin Turf and Basafilm®Twin Lawn, fertilizers from COMPO EXPERT.
COMPO EXPERT fertilizers are excellent for fertilizing lawns and ornamental gardens.
And yet they are two absolute bestsellers, well worth remembering. The name "Floranid®" is certainly already well established in gardening. Floranid® stands for high-quality, slow-acting fertilizers. But how else to understand the name is not so clear. Although. The word 'Twin' already betrays that it has something to do with a 'two'. And that's right. Because Floranid®Twin contains two slow-acting nitrogen components, namely Isodur® and Crotodur®. Both of these ingredients are the most reliable slow-acting forms of nitrogen and have a leisurely decomposition process, releasing final plant-absorbable nitrogen forms. Isodur® has a degradation mechanism mainly under the influence of classical soil processes, for about three months. Crotodur® is degraded over a period of about four months mainly by the microbial soil life, with release of plant-absorbable nitrogen forms. And that is the uniqueness of this product: two different, slow-acting nitrogen sources, each with its own specific degradation mechanism and with complementary duration of action. What about "peat? The word "peat" here has nothing to do with peat or potting soil, but everything to do with the English word for "grass. And voila, here we are: Floranid®Twin Turf is an excellent lawn fertilizer 20-5-8 (+ magnesium, sulfur and trace elements), extremely suitable for fertilizing lawns and lawns from early spring (2 - 4 kg/are), and that thanks to its high nitrogen content with the specific release patterns of the two slow nitrogen forms. Only for fertilizing lawns? Not at all! Thanks to its NPK content of 20-5-8, the product actually lends itself to all-round applications on flower borders, fertilization of leafy or evergreen hedges (Buxus, Taxus, Prunus lusitanica...) and so on.

And Basafilm®Twin Lawn? With this, COMPO EXPERT offers a unique product that unites two techniques: the technique of slow-acting nitrogen sources (as already described above for Floranid®Twin Turf) combined with the coating technique. Part of the granules of Floranid®Twin Turf receives a resin coating around them. That 'film' leads to a slow release of all nutrient elements; not only the phosphates, sulfates and magnesium present in the grains, but also the two slow nitrogen forms Isodur® and Crotodur®! And thus the word "Basafilm" is also explained. When coating fertilizer granules, it is the thickness of the coating that determines how quickly or slowly the nutrients trapped in the coating are released; it is calculated to last three months. But the unique thing about Basafilm®Twin Lawn is that the slow-acting forms of nitrogen are also included in the coating. And they must first be broken down within the coating into ammonium and/or nitrates before they can migrate out of the coating and be absorbed by the plants. That produces a delaying effect of about two to three months. The result is a quiet but continuous supply of plant-absorbable nutrients. And that is especially true of the nitrogen supply, which spreads from the time of application until about five to six months later. With this, virtually the entire growing season can be covered and only an autumn fertilization should be given - if necessary - with, for example, Floranid®Twin Club, 10-5-20 + 4 MgO and 60% of the nitrogen is under slow-acting form. Basafilm®Twin Lawn lends itself perfectly to fertilizing lawns or lawns in general, but the product can also be applied in ornamental gardens or along hedges. Because the product acts slowly, it is safe to apply a higher dose: 5 - 7 kg/are.
