A good drainage system is therefore increasingly important, but installation can be a time-consuming and expensive task. With the PCK Star Drain, that problem is a thing of the past.
Peter Schelstraete has more than 40 years of experience in drainage engineering and, together with Mahdi Gardabou, often ran into the problem. "Many drainage systems cost a lot of man hours to install and lack flexibility and quality," Mahdi says. The two decided to solve the problem themselves, and designed a high-quality drainage system that is applicable and accessible to everyone: the PCK Star Drain and Aqua Drain series.
The Star Drain collects rainwater and discharges it to the sewer system or an infiltration system. The design consists of a plastic channel element topped with an anodized aluminum grid, which prevents oxidation. The line gutters are attached together with a simple click system and PVC adhesive, and are immediately watertight. Follow the shape of the terrace or pool thanks to the corner elements and T-splits that are attached to the line channel by a coupler. The elements are made in one piece. No weak points and therefore no risk of cracks. "Open or closed end pieces lead the water away horizontally, but vertically can also be done very easily. A sliding underflow is smoothly slid into the desired location of the line channel and drilled out by a bell drill," Schelstraete explains.
A great system during heavy rainfall, but what to do during drought? "Line gutters with infiltration trenches offer a solution then. During light rainfall, the water is dispersed into the ground so no water is lost. During heavy rainfall, the excess is drained to sewers or catch basins."
Not surprisingly, the system is now being sold far beyond the Benelux in North America, or indeed dry areas such as North Africa. Rudy Damoiseaux of RD Constructions has been working with the PCK Star Drain for some time now and is quite enthusiastic: "It saves me an enormous amount of time, also because there is no need to apply sealant afterwards. In addition, the line drains are feather light and it looks beautiful. The visible grates are a nice sleek design and available in gray, black or corten steel."
The drainage system offers solutions around homes, patios and swimming pools, and is available in three different sizes depending on the flow rate required. The Star Drain 65/100, with a width of 65 millimeters, is ideal around a home where there is little or no traffic. The wider but shallower Aqua Drain 100/50 is useful in areas where proper drainage is needed but the installation height is limited, such as a balcony. A large terrace or swimming pool requires a line channel that can collect and drain more water. If so, the Aqua Drain 100/100 offers a flow rate of no less than 400 l/me.
