Rhododendron brings color, structure and volume to larger gardens

Rhodos Nursery from kapellen near Antwerp has been focusing on growing Rhododendrons since 2004. The company covers over 6 ha where the plants can grow up in peace in a natural habitat between free-standing Pinuses. The latter provide filtered light, giving the leaves a beautiful, deep green color.

Large gardens need large batches of plants. Not only to create partitions and security, but certainly also from an aesthetic point of view, large massifs are an eye-catching feature. Rhododendrons are ideal for this purpose!

Rhododendrons are evergreen, hardy, provide a month of color in the garden and they are easy to prune if needed. A mature massif requires little maintenance. And a Rhododendron hedge is also a beautiful and durable solution to avoid peeking into the garden.

To keep things interesting also in terms of price, Rhodes Nursery works with different qualities of Rhododendrons. The cheapest, the B-grade, is usually applied in the middle of massifs. This creates height. For the edging of the massifs, the AB-quality is used. If the edge is allowed to be "a little more", the A-quality is used.

Thus, with Rhododendron any shape and height is possible according to the customer's wishes. The only limitation is creativity. Surprisingly beautiful is a combination of colors and varieties. This ensures an extension of the flowering time as well as a colorful spectacle.

For example, if a customer likes white, 'Cunningham's White' is usually chosen. A beautiful plant with rich blooms, but flowering is very early (early May). To obtain a few weeks of extra white flowering, work with stripes or spots of 'Madame Masson' in the massifs. In this way, the flowering period is doubled..
