A machine that can loosen compacted soil layers, while preserving the existing infrastructure, deserves a place in every green-related machine park, according to drainage specialist Drainjet.

In the case of highly compacted soils, conventional drainage methods will carry water away from the site. In this way, although the excess water is removed, the water and oxygen permeability of the soil is not necessarily restored. The Drainjet 90, on the other hand, a compact and lightweight machine designed specifically for the landscaping and tree care industries, provides a permanent solution that allows air, water and nutrients to find their way through the soil again.
The Drainjet 90 creates an underground network of channels without the need to remove existing construction.
The Drainjet 90 uses a hollow granule spindle to penetrate the soil vertically and break both vertically and horizontally. This creates an underground network of channels without the need to remove existing construction or infrastructure.
By subsequently backfilling those channels with a special porous substrate (Drainjet Lava), the underground injection becomes permanent. The newly created veins can be
no longer slamming shut, and rainwater and surface water can simply re-enter the
soil infiltrate.
Only through such a restoration of permeability can plants and lawns regrow deep and wide roots, and collect water from the deeper groundwater table during dry periods. This underground water buffer, by the way, can be even better utilized, especially by adding the Terracottem Drainjet, developed together with Terracottem.
Drainjet also offers a solution for revitalizing the root zone on trees. For this purpose, the technique is applied in the crown projection of the tree and, in addition to Drainjet Lava and Terracottem Drainjet, the necessary tree fungi and bacteria are added.
Exactly how deep the treatment should be carried out depends on where the disturbing layer is located. On average, injections are carried out at a depth of 1.5 to 2 meters, although positive results have also been recorded for treatments at a depth of 4 meters.
The Drainjet 90 has already proven its usefulness in tackling boggy walkways and other examples of stagnant moisture, in the treatment of graded or veteran trees, and in landscaping in new subdivisions with deep to very deeply compacted ground. It owes this versatility not only to its well-thought-out technology, but also to its small width (80 cm) and weight (260 kg), which are necessary to traverse various terrains. Moreover, the machine is not seasonal: it can be used all year round and in all weather conditions. All reasons why the Drainjet 90 was declared one of the best new solutions for the green sector in 2020.
