Too wet, too dry...your lawn is always looking off...or can you do something about it?

More and more we are experiencing extremes in weather conditions, short periods of abundant precipitation followed by longer dry periods. The water table is too low and the top layers dry out. Once the top layer becomes too dry, however, its properties can start to change in such a way that the soil becomes water repellent. With all its consequences: the water no longer penetrates into the soil and you can water as much as you like, the lawn remains parched, and the water you give it will simply wash away. Rain showers no longer provide any relief either.

Once you are in this phase, is there anything you can do about it?

Of course ... and this with the help of a so-called wetting agent. Wetting agents are already very well known on sports fields and golf courses, but in landscaping they are not so well established yet.

They lower the surface tension of water droplets, making them flow open better. In addition, they break down the water-repellent layer around soil particles, or attach to it, changing its charge so that moisture is more readily reabsorbed. In dry conditions they keep the soil more moist both vertically and horizontally, and in wet conditions they can drain excess water into the soil. So whatever extreme conditions you face, wetting agents are going to help prevent or reverse them.

You can find some with a preventive or a curative effect, and some, of which Kick® Wetting Agent from COMPO EXPERT is a fine example, can do both. So when used, water will again be better absorbed by the soil and the grass will again have every opportunity to grow.
