STIHL acquires garden machinery specialist Mogatec

The family-owned company STIHL has acquired a 75.1 per cent stake in Mogatec GmbH, a specialist in modern garden machinery. This makes STIHL the majority shareholder in this Saxon company based in Drebach, Germany. Over the next few years, STIHL intends to gradually acquire the remaining shares in Mogatec. The move is the result of a long-standing close relationship between the two companies, which work together on the development and production of various tools and machines to order.

Nikolas Stihl, chairman of the STIHL Advisory Board and Executive Board, explains: “After almost 30 years of cooperation, Mogatec is finally officially part of our family business. We are particularly pleased about this. By having an experienced specialist like Mogatec at its side, STIHL, manufacturer of garden tools and machines, can further expand its development and production competences, especially on the growing battery market.” Martin Schwarz, head of production and materials at STIHL, added: “The fact that Mogatec employees are now part of the STIHL family is the logical next step in our close cooperation. This step strengthens STIHL's international pro-production network and makes an essential contribution to our further growth, especially in the Saxony region. I am enormously pleased that STIHL and Mogatec are continuing their joint journey.” Erik Jachmann, shareholder of Mogatec: “The long-standing bond between our two companies creates a lot of trust. As a global market leader and family-owned company, STIHL embodies values that perfectly align with ours. Thanks to this merger, Mogatec is ideally positioned for the future.”

Strengthening the Drebach (Saxony) site

The two managing directors of Mogatec, Tobias Wetzel and Alexander Gränitz, continued, “For Mogatec, this integration into the STIHL Group is the beginning of a new chapter in our history - a success story that has lasted for more than 30 years. With a global player like STIHL at our side, we can sustainably strengthen our Drebach site.” The STIHL family business plans to continue Mogatec as an operationally independent company. Tobias Wetzel and Alexander Gränitz will thus continue to jointly manage the Saxon company.

Mogatec GmbH, specialising in modern garden machinery, was founded in 1992. The company started with just 15 employees. Today, at the company's headquarters in Drebach, Saxony, around 430 people work on the manufacture of parts used in the production of drive mechanisms, clutch and cutting systems, electric garden tools and battery-powered garden machines. In 2021, Mogatec achieved a turnover of almost 100 million euros.
