In Evergem, hearts are beating for football. After major maintenance by Krinkels in May and June, the youth football grounds are almost ready for the start of the new sports season. Volunteer and jack-of-all-trades Maurice Blomme: “Krinkels works thoroughly and quickly, and communicates well. That makes it nice working together.”

It has become an annual tradition: after the youth tournament in May, Evergem 2020 football club closes the three grounds and the practice field for the major summer maintenance. For the second year in a row, the club called on the sports department of Krinkels. They scarified the grounds. Pits and other unevennesses were removed with 90 tonnes of fresh soil. And Krinkels sowed a lot of extra grass for a nicely closed, strong turf during the new season.
Emile Windey, project manager at Krinkels, follows up the maintenance in Evergem: “The makeover will take place in May and June. But the preparations already start in February. At that time, my colleague Steven Mattelin and I visit all sites together with our customers, to see what operations are needed. Good for 300 rounds in a month and a half. Then I prepare a maintenance proposal taking into account the customer's budget, weather conditions and the condition of the sites.”

“I got a compliment from the guys from Krinkels, because the pitches were looking so nice,” 80-year-old Maurice Blomme says. You can find the super-volunteer on the Wippelgem football pitches almost every day. Keeping them green, ‘liming’ the lines, repairing the goal nets, you name it.
“During the major maintenance, Krinkels was here with 4 or 5 people working. In just 2.5 days, our grounds were aerated, replenished, sown and fertilised. Our A-terrain, the competition area, was still in reasonable shape. But the B-terrain had a lot of pits and there was a problem with the drainage. Now everything has been restored.”
Maurice Blomme: “The cooperation with Krinkels is very smooth. They let me know in advance when they are coming. If I have additional questions, for instance to sow an extra strip of grass, they have no problem with that. And most importantly: the grass is now very nice and green everywhere. As far as I'm concerned, it can rain every day this summer!”

Kenny Ketels, alderman for sport and chairman of Evergem 2020: “Football is very much alive in our municipality. We have a nice sports infrastructure: a youth complex in Wippelgem, a stadium in Ertvelde, the football pitches of KFC Belzele and KFC Evergem Center, and an artificial pitch at FC Sint-Joris Sleidinge. In doing so, we appeal to a wide audience within our municipality: players, supporters, parents and helping hands who spend a lot of time here every week. To keep the pitches playable all year round, annual major maintenance is much needed. With Krinkels, we found an experienced partner who is also happy to advise us on day-to-day maintenance. In the municipality's multi-year plan, we also provide funds to renew our sports infrastructure: a nice sign for the future.”
