Color, security and low maintenance in larger gardens
In the last decades of last century, you couldn't look past it in any garden: the rhododendron - popularly known as azalea, although taxonomically this is not really correct - was everywhere. From then on, this popular shrub with beautiful flowers disappeared a bit into the background. Or did it? Because if it depends on Rhodes Nursery in Kapellen, the rhododendron is all set for a real 'comeback'....
Large gardens need large batches of plants. Not only to create separation and security, but also from an aesthetic point of view. Furthermore, rhododendrons are evergreen, hardy, provide a month of color in the garden and are easy to prune. A mature rhododendron requires little maintenance. A rhododendron hedge is also a beautiful and durable solution to prevent prying eyes in the garden.
Rhodes Nursery has over six acres where the plants can grow up in peace, in a natural habitat among free-standing pinuses. The latter provide filtered light, giving the leaves their deep green color. Plants are available in heights ranging from one to four meters. Cultivation in full soil ensures a healthy and well-developed root system, making them quicker and more certain to take root after their final planting.
And to still be able to grow rhododendrons in pots, the ARC (AirRootContainer) system is used. This is a plastic ring with air holes on the sides and no bottom, allowing plenty of oxygen to reach the roots. The roots grow outward and are led back in upon contact with the air, as it were. So no more spinning roots on the inside of the pot. The result is a good root ball after 12 to 15 weeks and a plant that can be planted all year round.
