Nearly 190 years of experience gathered on 45 acres. Over two thousand species of greenery together

Not surprising, perhaps, if you realize that the nursery saw the light of day almost two centuries ago, but by no means a reason to doubt the contemporary character of the activities. Years of experience, combined with the most modern cultivation techniques, ensure an extremely complete and high-quality assortment for garden and park.

A little history. In 1832, Amandus Op de Beeck - known as Old Mandus - established a tree nursery in Putte. For almost seventy years, he grew fruit trees there, until he handed the business over to his sons Gustaaf and Jozef in 1899. They continued in the same vein, but in 1937 put the stick in two, upon which Jozef started a nursery in his own name. In 1953, Antoon van Pelt took over the then already widespread tree nursery, giving the company its own name twelve years later. Meanwhile, the nursery has been going through life for 56 years as Tree and Rose Nurseries van Pelt, and son Paul and grandson Philip van Pelt ensure the continuation of almost 190 years of history and experience.

From Abelia to Zenobia

There is no doubt that in 190 years a lot of knowledge can be gained. Throughout its history, nursery van Pelt kept expanding its assortment and adapting it to changing needs and trends. What started with the cultivation of roses and fruit trees in particular, is today a nursery with more than two thousand species and varieties in various shapes and sizes. Avenue and park trees as well as roses, ornamental shrubs, conifers and container plants are part of the range, as are today's again popular ornamental grasses, bamboo plants and hydrangeas. Moreover, for very specific crops such as rhododendron, azalea and bamboo, van Pelt maintains close ties with specialized nurseries so that quality is guaranteed and any demand can be readily met.

Quality, a second nature

Attention to quality runs through the blood at van Pelt, so to speak. After all, experience in the family business has been passed on from generation to generation. In addition, the company can rely on a team of twenty experienced professionals, who give full rein to their knowledge of plants on the 45-hectare site every day. In combination with the modern cultivation techniques used in the nursery, this broad experience ensures a consistently high quality of plant material.

Van Pelt is also actively committed to a cultivation process with minimum harm to people and the environment. The company has been affiliated with the Environmental Plan for Ornamental Horticulture since 2007 and uses mechanical systems as much as possible to minimize the use of herbicides.

Experience, passed down from generation to generation, keeps quality high.
